Quarteira

About a 20 minute drive from our villa, Quarteira is located next door to the famous newer resort of Vilamoura. It has grown since the 1960s from a small fishing village to a major tourist location. It is probably our favourite place to go for its closeness to and promenade alongside the beach. The promenade is particularly ideal for the wheelchair user because of its length and proximity to the beach, its recent extension further enhances its appeal. The cafes and bars which line much of the walkway can also be accessed (some close out of season). Every Wednesday is market day and we believe its much better than the Loulé one.

There are two disabled toilets located along the promenade. The first is in the Dom José hotel (shown below). Which is about one third of the way along the walk. The second is by our favourite cafe. This is the last cafe on the beach side of the promenade before the new section of promenade begins. There are 2 ramps up from the walkway to the cafe, the toilet entry is shown below with a white arrow.
