Disabled Wheelchair accessible holiday accommodation for people with disabilities disability Algarve PortugalI have been paralysed from the neck down since 1983 having been injured playing rugby for my school first team at the age of 18. I was taken to the Midland Spinal Injuries Unit at The Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry, Shropshire where I spent 9 months. I did not regain much movement or sensation following the 8 week acute phase of the care I received because my injury was a fracture and dislocation of my C4 vertebrae which totally crushed my spinal cord. As a result I am a complete C4 tetraplegic (quadriplegic) requiring a chin controlled electric wheelchair.

While I was in hospital, I met my wife Denise who worked on the spinal unit. She is a Registered Nurse with experience in spinal injuries, orthopaedics and cardiology as well as being qualified in Aromatherapy Massage, Reflex Therapy, Metamorphic Technique and Professional Energy Field Healing. We initially bought a bungalow near to my parents house in Birmingham and lived there for some 16 years before we decided to do a 'No Going Back' at the beginning of 2001.

We finally moved here in July 2001 with the purpose of converting this villa and allow other disabled people to come here on holiday. Our motivating force in this move was to provide something we had found lacking in all our own holiday experiences. We always came away with the feeling that it could be done better. So here we are, we hope you like what you see!
